HARD TO LOVE
ST. JOHN’S PARK
Michael from the rock band, St. John’s Park, is a dear friend of mine, who has been writing music and playing with his band for years. He’s a hard worker, incredibly diligent, and takes his craft seriously. But this year, he took a huge step in investing in himself as an artist for the first time, and he went all in.
For his debut single Hard To Love, Michael needed a photo and video package that matched the raw intensity of his music. Something gritty, something broken. A past relationship unraveling in a 2-star hotel room.
It’s the messiest shoot I’ve ever done, and that was exactly the vision. Lens blurs, heavy camera shake, and rough textures which are usually cut out, were left in. This video is a broken, nostalgic, and unfiltered visual story. Handheld guerrilla filming in the dead of night. Making out in front of garbage bins in Kings Cross. A music video that feels like a painfully real memory.
